We are the Revolution.

We often look at our societal structures and find so many issues. Rampant homelessness, the opioid crisis, declining mental health, etc. Whether you look left or right, there’s a plethora of issues that are infecting our country. More often than not, the solution most people hope for is in the form of a government mandate, a program, or a new politician. These are serious issues being used as political tools to sway voters, instead of being looked at as actual problems that need solving. The truth is, reliance on the government to solve our issues, while we feel that may be their responsibility, will yield empty elections and worsening conditions.

I truly believe the private sector has the power to step up their game and take these problems on head first. Our only challenge is defeating the rampant greed and stockpile desire that often hits successful business owners. Once you can get past that, the world is an open frontier of issues to assault. My desire in starting a business was to create a tool to funnel the funds and exposure into problems that have grieved my heart. If you hang around RCC for long, you’re bound to see a Grunt Style shirt or hear conversation about veterans and PTSD. I’ve long looked at our nation’s warriors and seen the beaten, battered and wounded shape they return in, and watched as they struggled for some return to normalcy in the entirety of their lives. I’ve sat and read on forums, boards and chatrooms as veterans have poured out their desperation, heartbreak and frustrations. Though I have never experienced half of what these warriors have, I know that my purpose in life is to utilize my business as a tool to empower organizations and programs that seek to solve the problems that burden my heart.

Beyond providing me a daily mission, the honest to God truth is that when your business has a vision and a mission, you create an environment where your employees come in and can feel energized and passionate about what you’re pursuing. Sebastian knows that if someone comes in and alludes to service, he has the freedom to press into that and make the connection. Natalie knows that if someone pours out the sorrows of their battle with PTSD, she has a place to direct them to. It gives us purpose.

This is purely my opinion but, starting a business and making your primary focus pursuing a profit creates an environment of misaligned priorities and a focus on numbers, instead of people. When your business is mission oriented, every day the goal is clear, the focus is evident and you can push past the hard times, the lulls and the daily difficulties knowing that your purpose will propel you through hardships.

Use your passions to assault what burdens your heart. Monetize what you love and turn that money into movement. We don’t need politicians to pretend to fix what we can fix ourselves. Our revolution is one of action, one of aggressive movement and one of impending change. Don’t be discouraged in the hard seasons. The seasons where you have to dig in and fight hard. The payout is worth it.

Don’t just be the change you wish to see in the world. Be the spark that sets off the explosion that changes our world forever.
